NOVA, your right getting out there is enough, just been real lucky over the years. I hunt Clifton mostly, lots of oppurtunities. Then Orlean/Marshall.. Try to do it all with a bow on smaller 20 acres less tracts. I try to find em close to these places were the old guys shot everything they see...lol.. And they usually end on my tract after first light. Seems to work. I have a pretty good system it's been working. Little more to it, but little homework, and talking to the right people.. They weren't all killed here( MD, WV) but most. And I do still shoot the smaller cull deer, you almost have to... plus we shot alot of does.

I took my 18 yr old nephew with me this year. His real first hunting, asked me all yr if he could go. From his up bringing with his mom and step dad he is clueless on so many things not including hunting. At least now he lives with his dad next door to me.
We scouted together telling him what to look for, explaining all I could. Found a hot spot for him to get his first deer, put up a stand for him. Supplied him a gun, sighted it in, got him hunting clothes, and other hunting supplies from unscented body wash to a flashlight.
However none of this stuff is any good if you can't sit in the stand or sit still in the stand. Alot of mornings I would walk out of the woods and find him in my truck asleep.
Guess there is always next yr. He does want to go spring gobbler hunting with me, however he better do alot better if he plans on sitting with me in the woods. But I just have to keep at it and try to get him to learn the in's and out's.

He enjoyed it but I kept getting txt messages saying "wanna go to a different spot?" As the season went by he got better. Where do you hunt in Kind and Queen? I am a member of Tracker Hunt Club in King William and usually hunt Dragon Run State Forrest.

In my 30 + years of hunting deer I have seen a lot of the first one that came along trophy kills.Including myself. I think the youngsters problem isn't necessarily not waiting.Waiting in the right place has everything to do with it.

I go for body mass and meat. I only take large bodied bucks and large does.
