So as alot of you know, I was contemplating on where to take my bow to get the string & cable changed out. First off I got my string and calbe from Jesse @ viperxstrings.com/ $120 for the set. I've bought a new Buckiesfavoritelegalhorizontalshoulderfiredboltshootingdevice string from him in the past so I know his work. Next was where to take it? Wilcox = the tried and true place that every well respected bow hunter / archer takes their stuff in the Tidewater/Peninsula area. Or the new kid in town, Oceana Pawn/gun/archery & tackle. I decided on the new kid on the block. 2 days later I had it back and was shooting bullseyes @ 20yds. First off, they did a excellent job with the string and cable and getting the bow timed. BUT.... they did not set up the D-loop or the peep correctly. Luckily, I have a bow vice and levels. The D-loop was too high, my bow requires a level arrow vice a high or low nock. Centershot was pretty close so I didnt have to reset it. And my peep was quite a bit lower than I had it before so I had to re-establish my anchor to reset my peep. THese 2 things were NOT checked by Oceana before I left. But like I said, I have the knowhow and equipment to do it, so I was going to redo it when I got back to the house anyway. And now the Bear is shooting bulls @ 20, just like before and she seems quieter as well.
A tip for those that use kissers for anchors. I learned long time ago that the rubber ones will fly off at the most inopportune time. I use a piece of D-Loop material, tied in a knot and served in place. Its small enough not to effect the line speed as much as a big rubber button kisser, but its big enough to feel on the corner of my mouth even thru a camo facemask....
So what I thought would be seemless as it is a Wilcox, took a bit more time. Other than that... Oceana did exactly what they said they would do, change the string & cable. Wilcox just goes the extra mile!
