For those of us that hunt All day and have to carry our lunch in the woods with us it can pay off to carry some GOOD tasting and GOOD for you food with you.
Sure that snickers bar tastes good and will give you a little energy boost but it won't sustain you all day. Below i'll list some common "deer hunter foods" and give you the scoop on them
Jerky: Whether beef or deer any kind of Jerky is really good for you, high protein content really helps you and it is usually VERY low in fat. Stick a plastic bag of it in your pocket or whatever you keep your food in and you can munch on it all day to keep hunger pains away/
Boiled Eggs: Eggs are good for you despite what anyone tells you, personally i like em pickled in some kind of vinegar concotion. Put two or three in a plastic sandwich bag and you have an instant breakfast.
Candy Bars: Sure you get a sugar burst of energy from them and yes they do taste good, but your better off leaving them on the candy shelf in the store. Replace that snickers or hershey bar with a granola or some kind of fruit or nut bar..........FIG NEWTONS are a fruity good replacement for choclote bars that i prefer myself
Vienna Weiners: Ahhhh the old viennia sausage can, a deer hunters best freind.........NOT These are in no way good for you, for a healthy replacement take a can of tuna instead!!
Soda Pop: Coca Cola and Pepsi products just plain suck, take water, or gatorade or anything besides pop to drink. All it does is mke you even more thirsty!! And it's about as good for you as eating neals underwear!!
Sandwiches: If you get up early enough, scrtamble an egg and fry some sausage or deer tenderloin and put em on your sandwich instead of a lunch meat like bologna. Not only is it better for you, it tastes a whole lot better than a bologna or ham sandwich. If you MUST use any kind of lunch meat......go with turkey instead of bologna or even ham. it's much better for you than those fat gobbed "supposed meats"
Fruits: Apples and Oranges are awesome snacks to take with ya, any kind of fruit like this is great for you and great as a mid day or evening snack.
Salty Cravings: Not only are Potato chips bad for ya they are noisy in the woods and uncovnetional to carry. Instead TAKE YOUR NUTS.......that's right nuts are good for ya and tasty they will take away and cravings you have for salty foods too! I like to buy the big bags of roasted nuts (if you can find them) that you have to crakc open yourself to eat. mmm good.
CHEESE: A block cheese is good to, cut off a few small strips or chunks for a healthy snack.
SOUP: Athough i don't do this taking a healthy soup in a thermos can make a WARM meal that is good for you.
