My set is also a very small pair. When I am not using them I slide them inside my coat or shirt( with the cord still around my neck) on the opposite side I shoot from so they are never in the way. Sometimes I forget they are there. They have never been a pain for me.

I have a pair of compacts that I always carry in my pack. I rarely take them out though. As a glasses wearer, I've just never liked either looking at them through my glasses and having a much smaller field of view or having to move my glasses down my nose to look through the binocs. I never use my scope to ID stuff, but will use it after I'm sure it's a deer to try and judge the size/sex of the deer.

I've always got my binoculars with me. They are smallish 8x32s, but work well. My eyes aren't what they once were and out past 50 yards, I'd have a heck of a time telling if a deer had a rack or not. Even closer, especially in heavy cover. They work very well.
Dont need to spend a grand on 'em either. I picked mine up at malemembers for $90 on sale. One of the best buys yet.
